ARKEMA Chemicals, Inc., formerly Elf Atochem North America, Inc., through its predecessor company, M&T Chemicals, began operations in the Carrollton, Kentucky, area in 1958. The Carrollton Machine Center was built in 1972 and the Casting Center was built in 1979 by the Walther family, then known as Dayton Walther. Later it became Varity, Lucas Varity, and Meritor until the merger with Arvin in 2000. ArvinMeritor was presented the coveted "Business of the Year" award by the Carroll County Chamber of Commerce in 2002 for the facilitys participation in local events including the American Cancer Societys Relay For Life.

In November of 2000, BPB opened one of the largest gypsum board manufacturing plants in the United States, a new state-of-the-art production facility in Carrollton, Kentucky, with an annual production capacity of 700 million square feet of gypsum board.
"The level of production sophistication, along with our line speed and capacity, certainly build on BPB's reputation for consistently high quality gypsum products," says Bob Carroll, plant manager.
The new plant, completed in October 2000 at a cost of approximately $72 million, features totally computer-controlled equipment. At capacity, it will employ approximately 100 salaried and hourly staff. It manufactures 1/4-inch, 3/8-inch, 1/2-inch and 5/8-inch thick boards, both 48 inches and 54 inches wide, with square, beveled and tapered edges, and is the only BPB plant to manufacture the 54-inch-wide product.

The facility resides on 125 developed acres of a 1600-acre site. It is located on U.S. Highway 42 along the Ohio River, three miles east of Carrollton, 50 miles northeast of Louisville, Kentucky, and 50 miles southwest of Cincinnati, Ohio. Major transportation routes serving the area include the CSXT Railroad, the Ohio River, Interstate 71, and U.S. Highway 42.
The site began operation in December 1966 and has undergone a series of phased expansions. Current site capacity is approximately 40 times the original capacity, making it one of the largest silicone production plants in the world.
Major raw materials include silicon, methyl chloride, and methanol. In addition, the site uses sulfuric acid, heptane, hydrogen chloride, hydrochloric acid, and various catalysts. Major products are methylchlorosilanes and dimethylsilicones - building blocks for many of Dow Cornings products.
Dow Corning maintains a corporate ISO 9001 registration. Tools to meet customer requirements include: internal and external audits, a Quality Notification system, and Six Sigma® project methodology.

From its beginnings distributing and warehousing packaging supplies, DRC Industries has quickly expanded its manufacturing capabilities. Located in an 80,000 square foot facility, DRC has invested in a roll-coating laminator that produces concrete curing blankets for the construction industry. Additional manufacturing expansions are currently underway that will all DRC to produce heat blankets, bubble foil, food packs and a variety of other goods.

Construction of the Gallatin Steel Compact Strip Production facility, one of the most technologically-advanced of its kind, began in 1993.
